Location: Highway C near Highway BB, Lewis County, Missouri
Time: Approximately 7:20 a.m.

Details:

On September 18, 2026, at approximately 7:20 a.m., the Lewis County Sheriff's Office responded to Highway C near Highway BB regarding an unoccupied pickup truck located in a deep ditch.

While deputies were responding, La Grange Police Chief Aaron Johnson arrived at the scene and learned that a passing motorist had picked up the driver, identified as Andrew Stone, and transported him to Jonnies Service Station in Ewing, Missouri.

At approximately 7:54 a.m., Stone was contacted at Jonnies Service Station. Stone admitted he had been operating the vehicle and stated he had been returning home from Quincy when he experienced vehicle problems. During the contact, deputies detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage and observed that Stone's eyes appeared glassy. Stone admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the morning and consented to a portable breath test, which indicated the presence of alcohol.

Stone was placed under arrest for minor visibly intoxicated and transported to the Lewis County Sheriff's Office by Chief Deputy Jerrod Eisenberg.

During the investigation, Chief Johnson observed extensive front-end damage to Stone's vehicle and located corn stalks on the front of the vehicle. Additional investigation revealed extensive damage to nearby agricultural fields.

Stone was later interviewed and admitted that he had driven through a cornfield for approximately five minutes. He also stated that he had consumed liquor between approximately 1:00 a.m. and 3:00 a.m.

At approximately 11:08 a.m., deputies returned to the area to document the property damage. Numerous corn stalks were observed along the roadway and ditch areas. Deputy Jason Slater deployed a Lewis County Sheriff's Office drone and documented approximately 1,000 feet of damaged corn, spanning approximately five rows in width.

Additional damage was also discovered in nearby soybean fields. Drone surveillance documented multiple areas where a vehicle appeared to have traveled through the fields.

Stone was placed on a 24-hour hold pending formal charging. Chief Deputy Eisenberg submitted a formal request for charges related to Felony Property Damage in the 1st Degree and Minor Visibly Intoxicated.

On September 18, 2026, Lewis County Prosecutor Chelsea Fellinger filed formal charges alleging Stone committed a Class E felony of Property Damage in the 1st Degree and a Class D misdemeanor of Minor Visibly Intoxicated.

On September 18, 2026, Lewis County Associate Judge Corey Moon issued a warrant for the above-mentioned charges. Stone was issued a $10,000 cash-only bond.

On September 21, 2026, Judge Moon granted Stone an unsecured bond, and he was released on his own recognizance with a promise to appear at his next court date.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone who owns property in the area of Highway C and Highway BB and discovered crop, field, fence, or other property damage believed to be related to this incident is asked to contact the Lewis County Sheriff's Office.

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the La Grange Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
