The Sheriff's Office is fortunate to offer the D.A.R.E. program to all children attending school in the Lewis County C-1 and Canton R-V school districts. Chief Deputy Jerrod Eisenberg has completed the rigorous two-week D.A.R.E. instructor training and has provided instruction to 6th-grade students at Highland Elementary since 2009. Since 1997, LCSO D.A.R.E. instructors have taught more than 1,700 sixth-grade students.

In 2023, it was our privilege to reintroduce the D.A.R.E. tradition at the Canton R-V School District. D.A.R.E. was previously taught to Canton R-V students by members of the Canton Police Department but had been absent from the curriculum for many years.

The D.A.R.E. program is designed to prevent the use of illegal drugs and alcohol by children and teens while also providing strategies to address peer pressure, bullying, and other social challenges. D.A.R.E. envisions a world in which students everywhere are empowered to respect others and choose to live free from violence, substance abuse, and other risky behaviors.

The Lewis County D.A.R.E. program is supported by donations from private citizens and numerous local businesses. If you wish to contribute to this program, please contact the Sheriff's Office at any time.
