Conceal and Carry Permits

Concealed Carry Permits
The Lewis County Sheriff's Office issues Missouri Concealed Carry Permits to eligible Lewis County residents in accordance with state law.
Missouri law generally allows individuals who are 19 years of age or older to apply for a concealed carry permit. Certain members of the United States Armed Forces and honorably discharged veterans may qualify beginning at age 18. Applicants must also meet all other eligibility requirements established under Missouri law.
Firearms Safety Training
Before applying for a concealed carry permit, applicants must successfully complete an approved firearms safety training course that meets the requirements established by Missouri law.
Upon completion of the required training, applicants should contact the Lewis County Sheriff's Office to schedule an appointment.
What to Bring
Applicants should bring:
- Proof of successful completion of an approved firearms safety course
- A valid government-issued photo identification
- Any additional documentation required for the application process
- Missouri law requires applicants to submit proof of qualifying firearms training as part of the concealed carry permit application.
Application & Background Check
During the appointment, applicants will complete the required application and fingerprinting process. Fingerprints and identifying information are submitted for the appropriate state and federal criminal history and eligibility checks.
The Sheriff's Office will review the application to determine whether the applicant meets the requirements established under Missouri law.
Once the application has been approved, the Lewis County Sheriff's Office will issue the applicant a Missouri Concealed Carry Permit.
Why Obtain a Permit?
Although Missouri law allows permit-less concealed carry in many circumstances, obtaining a Missouri Concealed Carry Permit may provide additional benefits, including recognition by other states and certain exemptions or protections provided under state and federal law.
A standard Missouri concealed carry permit is generally valid for five years from the date of issuance or renewal.
