Patrol Division
The Patrol Division is the largest and most visible division of the Lewis County Sheriff's Office. Patrol deputies provide law enforcement services throughout Lewis County 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Deputies respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, investigate crimes, enforce traffic laws, and work proactively to ensure the safety of our communities.
Patrol deputies are often the first point of contact between the Sheriff's Office and the public. They are committed to protecting life and property while serving the citizens of Lewis County with professionalism, integrity, and respect.
Patrol Responsibilities
The Patrol Division is responsible for a wide range of law enforcement services, including:
- Responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
- Criminal investigations and preliminary crime scene processing
- Traffic enforcement and crash investigations
- Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) enforcement
- Serving arrest warrants and court-related duties
- Conducting welfare checks
- Investigating suspicious activity and criminal complaints
- Assisting motorists and stranded travelers
- Civil standby requests
- Search and rescue operations
- Mutual aid assistance to neighboring agencies
- Community policing and public safety initiatives
Patrol Operations
When not responding to calls for service, deputies conduct proactive patrols throughout Lewis County. This includes monitoring neighborhoods and rural areas, checking businesses after hours, enforcing traffic laws, locating wanted individuals, and working to prevent crime before it occurs.
Deputies also work closely with local police departments, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, fire departments, emergency medical services, schools, and other public safety partners to provide coordinated law enforcement services.

Patrol deputies receive ongoing training in numerous areas to better serve the community, including:
- Firearms proficiency
- Defensive tactics
- Crisis intervention and de-escalation
- Emergency vehicle operations
- Drug recognition and enforcement
- Active threat response
- First aid and trauma care
- Drone (UAS) operations
- Missouri legal updates and continuing education
