Law Enforcement Restitution Fund

Established by state law and county ordinance in 2004, the Lewis County Law Enforcement Restitution Fund (LERF) provides critical financial support to enhance the operations of both the Lewis County Sheriff's Office and the Lewis County Prosecutor's Office.

All monies deposited into the fund are collected from individuals involved in court proceedings for various misdemeanor and felony offenses. A five-member board is appointed to oversee the fund and approve all expenditures, ensuring that resources are used responsibly and in the best interest of public safety.

Since its inception, the Law Enforcement Restitution Fund has directly contributed to the improvement of law enforcement services in Lewis County. The fund has provided for the purchase of five patrol vehicles, mobile data terminals, weapons, patrol equipment, and has supported assistant prosecutor services-all of which strengthen the county's capacity to protect and serve its citizens.
