Community Safety Update: Drug Abuse and Cybercrime Awareness

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate numerous drug-related violations throughout the county. Of particular concern is the abuse of prescription medications that are legally obtained through licensed physicians. This includes the misuse of pain medications such as hydrocodone and attention-deficit medications such as Adderall.

When these medications are abused, they can lead to serious consequences-including an inability to function properly at home, at work, or within family relationships. The Sheriff's Office remains committed to addressing this issue through investigation, education, and cooperation with healthcare providers and the community.

Another major threat to our communities is the use and production of methamphetamine. Methamphetamine abuse continues to destroy lives and families across rural Missouri. Its use leads to severe health deterioration, violent behavior, and addiction that often drives other crimes such as theft and domestic violence. Methamphetamine remains one of the most dangerous and destructive drugs impacting Lewis County today.

In addition, cybercrime remains a daily threat to Lewis County residents. Common schemes include phone, mail, and email scams aimed at stealing personal information or money. Please remember: never provide personal or financial information over the phone or online unless you have verified the identity of the recipient.

Many scammers operate from outside the United States, using technology to disguise their location and appear legitimate. They often rely on intimidation or emotional manipulation to pressure victims into sending money or revealing sensitive information.

If you believe someone is attempting to scam you-or a family member-contact the Lewis County Sheriff's Office immediately. A deputy will be glad to help verify the situation and ensure your safety, click here.
