On July 12, 2026, Deputy Toby Moss responded to a report of a motorist who was passed out behind the wheel and had been stopped by the La Grange Police Department on State Highway B in rural La Grange, Lewis County, Missouri.
Deputy Moss made contact with the driver, identified as Travis Johnston of Belton, Missouri. Mr. Johnston initially provided officers with a false name. The Missouri State Highway Patrol responded to the scene and arrested Mr. Johnston for driving while intoxicated. During a search of the vehicle incident to arrest, Deputy Moss located a white crystalline substance and several items related to drug paraphernalia.
Mr. Johnston was correctly identified and placed under arrest for possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license. Mr. Johnston was placed on a 24 hour hold at the Lewis County Jail pending a warrant application. Deputy Moss submitted a request for formal charges at that time.
On July 12, 2026, Lewis County Prosecutor Chelsea Fellinger filed formal charges alleging Mr. Johnston committed the offenses of a Class D Felony of Possession of a Controlled Substance, a Class D Misdemeanor of Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and a Class D Misdemeanor of Operating a Motor Vehicle without a Valid License.
On July 12, 2026, the Honorable Corey Moon, Associate Judge of Lewis County, issued a warrant for Mr. Johnston for three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Operating a Motor Vehicle without a Valid License. Bond was set at $10,000 cash only.
On June 14, 2026, Mr. Johnston was granted an OR bond by Associate Judge Moon and released on his own recognizance with a promise to appear at his next court date.
The Lewis County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and La Grange Police Department.
