Details:
On August 15, 2026, at approximately 1:40 p.m., the Lewis County Sheriff's Office responded to a disturbance at a Lewis County residence after receiving information that one person had been stabbed.
Deputies located John Lewis suffering from approximately 12 stab wounds to his back. The investigation determined that Lewis had allegedly entered the residence carrying a tire iron, despite having been served with an Order of Protection the previous evening prohibiting him from being at the residence.
During the altercation, Lewis allegedly damaged two cellular phones and struck an occupant with the tire iron. Another individual then reportedly stabbed Lewis with a pair of scissors and restrained him until the confrontation ended.
A tire iron and a pair of scissors were recovered from the scene. The Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted with the investigation.
Mr. Lewis was placed under arrest for Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree, Burglary in the 1st Degree, and Violation of an Order of Protection. Mr. Lewis was transported to the Lewis County Jail, where Deputy Mathias Frank submitted a request for formal charges.
On August 15, 2026, Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney Chelsea Fellinger filed formal charges alleging that Mr. Lewis committed a Class B felony of Burglary in the 1st Degree, a Class D felony of Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree, and a Class A misdemeanor of Violating an Order of Protection.
On August 16, 2026, the Honorable Corey Moon, Associate Circuit Judge of Lewis County, issued a warrant for Mr. Lewis on the three charges: a Class B felony of Burglary in the 1st Degree, a Class D felony of Domestic Assault in the 2nd Degree, and a Class A misdemeanor of Violating an Order of Protection.
Mr. Lewis is currently lodged in the Lewis County Jail in Monticello, Missouri, in lieu of a $50,000 cash-only bond.
The Lewis County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
