On December 13, 2025, the Lewis County Sheriff's Office was notified of a reported stolen vehicle out of Henry County, Missouri. Information received indicated the suspect, a female identified as Maliyiah J. Smith, was traveling to her boyfriend's residence in rural Lewistown, Lewis County, Missouri.

Deputy Mathias Frank located the vehicle near the area of interest after it was found crashed in a ditch near State Highway Y and Fern Street. Smith and a juvenile male were detained at the scene. Smith was taken into custody and placed on a 24-hour hold for tampering with a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, and property damage.

The juvenile male was released to his guardians at the request of the Lewis County Juvenile Office.

Deputy Frank completed a probable cause statement and affidavit for Smith's arrest. Subsequently, Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney Chelsea Fellinger formally charged Smith with tampering with a motor vehicle and receiving stolen property, both Class D felonies. The Honorable Judge Corey Moon, Associate Circuit Judge, issued a warrant for Smith's arrest.

As of December 17, 2025, Smith remains lodged in the Lewis County Jail in lieu of a $10,000 cash-only bond.

The Lewis County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
