Details:
On August 20, 2026, at approximately 7:00 pm., members of the Lewis County Sheriff's Office, Special Agents with the Northeast Missouri Narcotics Task Force, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol executed a search warrant at 404 White Street in Canton, Lewis County, Missouri.
The search warrant followed a drug investigation led by Deputy Abigail Stroud of the Lewis County Sheriff's Office. Based on information developed during the investigation, an application for a search warrant was submitted and subsequently granted by the Honorable Corey Moon.
During the execution of the search warrant, investigators located approximately 1.5 ounces of suspected cocaine, along with digital scales, plastic baggies, cutting materials, drug paraphernalia, and other items consistent with the preparation and distribution of controlled substances.
Multiple firearms and live ammunition were also located throughout the residence. According to the probable cause statement, several firearms were found underneath a child's bed, while additional firearms, ammunition, suspected cocaine, and drug-related items were located in areas reasonably accessible to children residing in the home.
Investigators also identified concerns regarding the safety and welfare of children residing at the residence, as well as concerns involving the care and welfare of domesticated animals located on the property. Children were removed from the residence and taken into protective custody. Missouri Department of Social Services Children's Division responded and assisted with the incident.
As a result of the investigation, Nathaniel Mayfield, Lyssa Mayfield, and Jonathan Mayfield were arrested and placed on 24-hour holds pending warrant applications.
On August 21, 2026, the Lewis County Sheriff's Office submitted reports to the Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office seeking multiple criminal charges. The requested charges against Nathaniel and Lyssa Mayfield included two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the Second Degree, Animal Neglect or Abandonment, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Manufacture of a Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Charges requested against Jonathan Mayfield included Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Following review of the investigation, Lewis County Prosecuting Attorney Chelsea Fellinger filed formal charges alleging that Nathaniel Mayfield and Lyssa Mayfield each committed a Class D Felony of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and a Class C Felony of Delivery of a Controlled Substance.
Prosecutor Fellinger also filed formal charges alleging that Jonathan Mayfield committed a Class D Felony of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and a Class D Misdemeanor of Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
On August 21, 2026, Judge Corey Moon issued arrest warrants for Nathaniel and Lyssa Mayfield. Bond for each was set at $50,000 cash only.
Judge Moon also issued an arrest warrant for Jonathan Mayfield, with bond initially set at $25,000 cash only.
As of August 26, 2026, Nathaniel and Lyssa Mayfield remained in custody. Jonathan Mayfield had been released on an own-recognizance bond and placed on house arrest.
